XTS5k and DTMF deviation setting

Post by radioactive69 »

I am running DSP R05.00.01 and Host R05.00.00 on my XTS5 and was suprised to find my DTMF levels exceeding 5kc and peaking at 6kc deviation. Enough to cause distortion that the control receiver won't decode.

I looked around the CPS R06.00.00 and Tunner R04.01.00 and see nothing for turning this down. I tried turning the softpot for overall TX deviation down but, this seems to effect speach only.

Any ideas how to set this?

Try aligning the deviation limit to 2.83 kHz then do the mod balance by keying up each test point on the low tone, measuring it, then key on the high tone and adjust so it is the same.

Go back and recheck the deviation limit as these two interact slightly.

Then recheck your dtmf level. If it is still open I suggest calling Moto tech support and open a case.

I aligned those softpots. They were only .10kc off of the 2.83kc setting you requested. This however did nothing for the DTMF levels.

So I messed with the Hearclear, TX emphasis, Analog AGC (fixed gain adjustment) and Digital/Analog balance check boxes without luck.

Darn... I didn't want to mess with them again... the phone comes off the hook... I'll let you know what they have to offer.

this was a problem addressed in host R05.01.01 and DSP R05.01.00. The radios sent 8Khz DTMF deviation prior to this. You need an upgrade.

I received the VHF 5000 back today from the Depot and the work order says "replaced defective part" without any other details. It has however been upgraded to R06.01.00. I have another UHF 5000 still in the Depot and the updated workorder says "waiting for parts".

Maybe it's more then just a firmware upgrade to fix this. I have noticed that several other functions like Hearclear are working as before it was not. Also, voice files would play eventhough it was muted and now muting will suppress voice playback.

It would be interesting to see if this is more wide spread amoungest us backwoods conventional users. Any one else checked their DTMF levels?

Here is an update to this topic:
I spoke to M about my UHF XTS which was held up in the depot for 5 weeks and the explaination was that the RF module needed to be replaced. They were waiting for new RF modules to arrive.

I received the HT back and it appears to be an entirely new HT. The old case was sent back with the serial lables scraped off and the new HT at least appears that they replaced my HT with a whole new HT. UHF DTMF deviation is now down to 2.1kc, and VHF devation is down to 3kc, intresting...
