EEEEK!!! astro saber secure problem.

Post by wazzzzzzzzup »

ok folks,
i have a VHF AS3 VSELP. love the radio and last year at dayton i found a guy selling encryption board for it, so i bought one, installed it, and had someone with a DX loader, load the key. the radio had already been setup for infinate key retention. secure's been working great for all this time. well i was at hamfest this weekeend and in the middle of a transmission in secure mode, my radio went fail 09/10 key fail. in the middle of the transmission!!!! the battery had plenty of power. DAMN! now im going to have to find someone to load it at dayton again...or buy the upgrade chips for my BX DES loader.

what happened? anybody have this happen?

Is it still coming up with the fail 9/10 error? If so its not seeing the module anymore. There is an astro spectra at work that once in a while will show 9/10 but cycling the power takes care of it and it hasn't lost the key.

My Astro Spectra does the same exact thing tooo, once in awhile it will read 9/10... then just power it up again, and its gone....

maybe the module came loose....or it might have dirty contacts

i did try turning it off and on several times right after it happened, and it still said 09/10 and i was so frustrated i shut it off and havent touched it until tonight, and to my amazement, the secure works again! you are both correct, thanks for the info, maybe ill dive into the radio again and push the module in place, maybe we had a little "chip creep" occur.

There is a mod for the astro spectras involving the command board and RF board. Depending on the age of the spectra determines whether or not a newer UCM will work in it.

For you spectra guys out there.

Here you go:

And here's the Detailed Service Manual for the ASTRO Spectra that you'll need to go along with it:
