What radios do you own?: More than I can count

ht-1550 display

Post by RADIOMAN2002 »

I have a pair of 1550-ls portables. One sits in the charger and is use as a base they other I carry. Figure this out, the one in the charger now has display problems. There seems to be 2 or more lines going from top to bottom on the display, wiping it out. I tried openning the radio and resetting the flex cable into the connector but, no luck. Is this a return to depot or is it field repairable. I actually was in the middle of selling the radio and now I can't. Any suggestions especially since Moto doesn't even do the depot repairs nymore.

Sounds like the LCD is coming unbonded... if you don't have the specialized tools and skills, your best bet is probably to flat-rate it in. Make sure they bump the firmware to the latest revision while it's in there.

If the radio is under warranty send it in. Otherwise, it is a cheap fix, about $40.00 in parts from M. I have seen about 7 HT1550's with the same problem. Bad screens, but I feel that the flat rate repair is not worth the cost. If you need help on changing the screen drop a pm

yep mine did the same thing,
the part # for the display is 5105385y57 cost 67.50, also when you change the display, be careful when you put the new one in, you can crack the lcd real easy
