Converting XTS3000R MII to MIII

Post by jmr061 »

I am looking into whats involved in the hardware dept. as far as changing a XTS3000R MII to MIII. After looking at the parts explosion and listing this is what I have come up with.

NTN8652G – XTS3000R MIII REFURB HOUSING
7505293Z02 – MIII KEYPAD (R MODEL)
NTN8311B – KIT KEYPAD FLEX ASSEMBLY MIII
4205631Z01 – CLIP, CONTROL LOCKING (4)
2605342Z02 – SHIELD, CONTROLLER FRONT

My understanding is the refurb kit comes with the volume/rotary knobs, stickers, etc. Does the keypad come with the refurb kit or is it separate? I also note that the keypad flex part says its a kit. Does it come with the shield and clips or are those separate? On my model two the keypad is double sided taped to the shield so I am thinking it may be part of the kit. I'd just like to confirm what I should or shouldn't get as part of upgrading this to a model III. Just need help with the hardware at this point.

Thanks

Jason

Buy the shield, keypad flex and the clips. When you exchange the keypad it is easier to leave the MII keypad attached to the shield, the clips will be difficult to take off once the flex is adhered to the shield. Assemble the new shield with the clips clipped on then adhere the flex. At least this way you will have a servicable MII keypad flex assembly and the shield and clips are cheap.

The keypad keys are seperate and don't come with the housing. Make sure your radio is really a rugged radio and that the chasis is a rugged chasis. It can't hurt to replace the seals while you have the radio open.
