EX600XLS feedback problem...help?

Post by boomer632 »

Just purchased 3 brand new EX600XLS portables 450-527 mhz. They are from dealer with latest firmware, blue batttery contact seal. I programmed them and everything works fine except for one thing. Our PD runs off a repeater. We dont use any DTMF or signalling. Pretty much a simplex system. When I turn the volume up to 3/4 or full and transmit I'm getting feedback through the speaker after releasing the PTT button. I dont get the feedback when the volume knob is set lower than 3/4. Any ideas on what I can change in the codeplug to fix the problem. I dont want to set it for auto power. It is set to xmit on hi power now. We have 10 ht1250's I have programmed the same, and none of them have this problem.

How long does it last, and does it do it on a simplex radio-to-radio channel as well?

What type of repeater are we talking about here? It might have something to do with the 'reverse burst' being out of phase if it's not a Motorola repeater.

The feedback will last a second or two if nobody responds after i release the PTT. If someones responds, it will last throughout the transmission. Im not sure about the brand of repeater, but its prob a MOT. All of our other HT1250's are fine, I programmed them the same way. This does not occur on non repeater channels. It also doesnt do it on other repeater channels where the repeater antenna is farther away. It sounds just like it would if you pushed the PTT with another radio right next to it. Im baffled on this one.

That's definitely a strange one. I just checked through the service repair notes on MOL, there's nothing about that problem...yet.

It basically sounds like the microphone isn't turning off after releasing the PTT, allowing feedback through the speaker during the repeater hang time. Of course, there is no hang time in simplex comms, so you don't see the problem.

It's interesting that it only happens on your repeater. Are you using PL/DPL on the affected channel? If so, it might be interesting to change your RX mute/unmute rule from the default "std/std" to "and/or" & see what happens (if you haven't already done so).

It may ultimately be a result of a new firmware bug (yay), but let's try everything else first. Out of curiosity, what's the firmware version of them? Brand new units are still generally a few releases behind unless the dealer updated them. Updating might be all it takes.

Does it do it with a speaker/mic?

I dont have speaker mics for them. They are used when we are doing plain clothes or narcotics work.
