Multi-Radio KVL Cable?

Post by TXCAP »

Anyone know of a part number for a KVL cable which has multiple cables coming out. I recall keyloading with us custom's kvl, and the plug on the KVL had MX, Saber, KMC, Expo, KVL, Hi-rose, Etc. all coming out of one plug. I recall it having a spring strain relief on the Plug.

I think you may be referring to a TKN8531C.

If there is such a beast i would too!

Otherwise i suspect your referring to a 8531 that has a male hirose connector on the radio end and then you just connect the radio specific adapter to it.

That's what I was thinking. I'm using one here with different "adapters" that plug into the Hi-Rose port on the cable. I only have the Saber and the Spectra adapters.

So far all i have is the Saber "D" adapter. I want to find one of the Spectra adapters, the last one i saw on ebay went for nearly the price of a used 50w Spectra...

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for the Spectra keyload adapter by chance? I would like to look it up on MOL, see if its still available, and for how much.

I just bought one not too long ago from Motorola and it wasn't that expensive. I think the cable was 20 something and the adapter was 20? I'll give you part numbers and prices when I get home.

Okay, the part numbers and prices are as of today because the invoice/shipping label that I found does not have the prices??? <shakes head>

Hi-Rose Cable - TKN8531C - $71.40 - (CABLE KEY LOAD)

Spectra adapter - 5880219R01 - $20.40 - (ADPT DVP ASSEM)

The text in parenthesis is how Motorola has them listed. I guess I was wrong on the cable being $20.00, but hit the nail on the head with the adapter. I still don't remember forking out $70 for the cable though. Maybe the price went up?

TXCAP posted this reply, but in the wrong place!

TEXCAP writes:
No, the one I was Inquiring about, has MULTIPLE cables coming out of the KVL plug, not one plug (HiRose) with multiple adapters, im coming to the conclusion that this may have been a custom job.

Here's a very expensive one. MOL desription doesn't say anything (go figure).

SDKN4392A - CABLE KEYLOADER - $473.45

And that is government pricing...

Might be a lead of sorts...

The TKN8531C comes up as $84.00 on my MOL account.

The Spectra adapter comes up as $24.00. Not too bad i guess!

That $473.45 cable may be the one that TXCAP is talking about, but the description in MOL is non-existant...

My prices for those cables are about 18% cheaper. I thought we got a discount, but I didn't know it was that much.

Multi-Radio KVL Cable?

Post by TXCAP »

That is a DCR3000 Keyload Cable. (SDKN4392A)
A DCR3000 is basically a 2 piece portable (pancake radio) with inductive loop & earpiece.... cool radio.. I wouldn't ask for a price tho.....

I like the idea of using the hirose cable and then have adapters for specific radios. I
have the saber and spectra adapters, but need the adapter that connects to either
an XTS3000 or MTS2000.

If anyone has one of these for sale, knows the part number and/or where I can get
one for a good price, please let me know!

Below is the wiring diagram for the MTS / XTS KVL Cable (TDN9390). I origionally
got the basic diagram from a site that was referenced elsewhere on the board. It
does work, but the most critical part is getting the pogo pins on the radio connector
in the correct positions.

For some reason, when I preview this posting, blank lines show up every other
line, but the diagram is still accurate.

My price is sitting at ~$400 for the cable.

List seems pretty standard at $557/cable, except one says $530/cable.

Weird.

The hirose cable which is required to load the spectra is I think around $67. I think Jaymz has mine right now. The Jedi adapters are $67 (jedi->Hirose), the saber ones are about the same.

My guess is that this might be a single hirose cable with 5-6 adapters hanging off of it for different radios as mentioned here - unless it's got a fancy little box in the middle with 10 different cables coming out of it. Would be cool to actually see it as Doug stated.

The cable that you talk of DOES exist!!! My mentor has one. Unfortunately, there were only 6 of them made (as of 2001 when he took a severence package from mother M). They were specifically made for the secure design center's lab in Schaumburg. He ended up with one because he was working in the Govt. land mobile division and needed to test several different base stations, mobiles and portables. They called it "The Octopus" hence 8 tentacles. he say's that he's pretty sure that 2 or 3 of them were "loaned" to a couple of agencies and were never returned to the lab. This could be where someone has seen one of them.

There's a leg that goes to the keyloader (MX connector) & one for the following radios:

Saber
MX
Expo ( same as CIU - I think)
Micor
hirose

There's 2 more I think - I think they're for base stations -- cant think of them right now it's been a while since I handled that thing. The next time I stop by his house, I'll get a couple of pictures of it.

I figured the expo and hirose were the same.

I have the hirose cable with the spectra and D saber adapters and was hoping to use the hirose part for the expo.
