GM300 codeplug needed...

Post by eboe »

I have a GM300 with a model# M43GMC29C2AA.

I'm getting an ERROR 58 when reading the radio. I've done a search and tried all the remedies I could find for this, but none of them worked. The only thing left is to just put a fresh codeplug in and see if that works. I'm wondering if it's running a hacked codeplug now. It's a friend's radio. I don't know where he got it, but it powers up just fine and shows 32 channels. We're only going to use it for about 5 or 6 channels so I wouldn't mind getting it back to 16 channels if that's what it's supposed to be.

If anybody can help me out, please PM me.

Thanks
Walt

You hit the nail on the head. It's been hacked for more channels. Ma M never built a 32 channel GM300. All you really need to do is make a slight modification to the .MDF file in your copy of RSS, and you will be able to program it with no problem. The instructions for modding the .MDF file can be found here. If you need help with editing the .MDF file, just ask.

BTW, asking for a copy of a .MDF file can get you in trouble. IIRC, we can't exchange even parts of an RSS package.

No, codeplugs are OK. I don't know for sure if you can 'recover' it that way or not. I've got a few GM300 codeplugs, but not for that model I'm afraid. About the only way I'd be able to help you would be to help you hack your .MDF file.

Just be very careful. You may be able to seriously mess up your radio, or you may not, I'm not really sure how much damage you can do with an .MDF file. Hex Workshop should ask you, when you try to save the edited file, if you wish to create a backup. Make sure you tell it 'yes'. It will save the original version of the file with a .BAT extension, as well as saving the edited version with the required .MDF extension. If you do need help, don't hesitate to ask.

You may want to try running maxtrac software on it. Someone may have made it into a maxtrac..

It's a maxtrac... to blank the GM, there's no going back, recovery is as a maxtrac.
If it were a codeplug hack, just reading it with GM software would cause the read codeplug to revert and you'd only get 16ch.; so rest assured you have a Maxtrac now, as it's obviously a "radio" hack, not a "codeplug" hack.
Just read it out and program with regular maxtrac s/w.

Your GM300 must be recover to 16ch.
Use modify gm300.mdf (40ch),
read gm300, than delete chanel above 16,
recover to 16ch only.
Write to radio.
===============
Now you can read gm300 with standard RSS GM300.
Please try.........

Error #58 cause of:
