Saber and Systems Saber Support @ Depot ended 12/31/05

Post by alex »

Got this the other day in my PM box -

Support for the Saber and System Saber has officially ended at the depot. Any radio received with a ship date after 12/31/05 will be returned unrepaired.

Just a general FYI.

Been waiting for that axe to fall, and it now has.

Last one out of Schaumburg, please turn off the lights!

Since they no longer support the model, maybe they would support us with those NLA cases they must have lying about?

Didn't think so....

I bet there's 200 brand new Saber cases in a dumpster behind a certain building in Algonquin Road, Schaumburg, IL.

Just because Depot support ends on a product it doesn't always mean you can't still get parts, they are usually available for years after the fact.

Yep, they'll sell whatever's left in stock...they just won't make any more of them. Get 'em while you can!

I don't think they would want that done, see below.

I'll take you up on that bet since the depot AND the parts distribution center are in ELGIN not Schaumburg!

Anyone know when this type of notice is due to arrive for the Astro Saber series?

By the way, as an update, the Elgin radio depot is not longer. In fact, the Elgin distribution center is not longer a Motorola facility. I visited there a few weeks ago and by all accounts, the transition was/is as smooth as could be expected and not completely without benefits to the employees that stayed on.

And just becuase they stop supporting depot repair for the civilian market doesnt mean the federal side has closed. I still reqularly send sabers back to the depots federal side for repairs. It takes a little longer, but they still support our radio's.

But for how much longer? Parts for some ranges are getting scarce and some are NLA.

By the way, if you guys haven't noticed, I have officially been "retired". I'll still be checking in from time to time and help where I can. Unfortunatly I won't be able to use the database that I wasn't supposed to have access to in the first place. I did manage to bring home some of my reference material that was no longer required at the depot, so it should help some.
