1225 RSS install problem w/ Win XP

Post by HumHead »

I recently went to install the new "XP friendly" version of the 1225 series RSS on my programming computer (from an original factory CD). The computer is running XP Professional.

When I try to start the program I got an error window that says "RSS DLL not found", and the program terminates.

There is a 1225rss.dll file in the program directory.

I installed the program using all of the default values and locations, except for changing where I filed the icon group on the start menu.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the package. I tried, just for yucks, placing a copy of the dll file in the Windows\System32 directory.

No luck.

Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks! :D

Just for verification, you are referring to Ver. 4.0, correct? I have it on my XP Pro maching running flawlessly.

I had the same issue after installing some other CPS. A reload over the top of the exsisting installation corrected it.

Yes, it's version 4.0.

I tried reinstalling over the previous install, still no luck.

You should also have the following DLL's in the 1225 directory:

ISREG32.DLL
ComThunk32.DLL
serialcomm_dllpackage.DLL

Got 'em all, although the one is actually showing as "_ISREG32.dll" Do you show the underscore in your directory?

Yes, I unintentionally missed the underscore. I'm working on finding out what DLL's the installation puts into other directories...I know the 3.2 version installed several. I normally use "DLL Show" to see everything called up by a program...however, it only shows true 32-bit Windows programs...1225.exe doesn't even show up in it's 'running programs' list.

The first 10 install into the "1225 series RSS" directory, the others I've listed the path. Most install into both the system and system32 directories. Check them out & let us know.

No joy. I ended up just taking out a second computer with the 1225 pacakge installed.

I was able to install the program with no problem on my desktop. I did notice an odd thing- on the problem laptop, it installed all of the .dlls in System 32, but none in System. I tried copying them over manually, but still no luck.

The problem computer also has a Windows update that it can't seem to figure out that it installed already (it keeps wanting to install it again), and some sound card issues.

As soon as I can find a calm day or two, I think it's going to be time to back up the data, wipe the machine, and try again.

Must be a registry thing, not pointing to the right directory or something. Sounds like it has other issues as well...I second the wipe & reload.

OK- Just to bring this one back from the dead-

I finally got around to completely wiping and re-building my notebook. Guess what? Same issue, even with a clean install.

I just sort of walked away from it shaking my head and decided to worry about it some other time.

Then, just yesterday, I went to install the MagOne CPS. It complained about a couple of out of date Motorola dlls. I told it to go ahead and replace them with the newer versions. (Unfortunately, I didn't note which ones)

Surprise, the 1225 software now works too!

Obviously it didn't like something in the original install. I'm still puzzeled because the install was done from a genuine /\/\ CD that had installed just fine on other machines.

Weird.
