What radios do you own?: APX V/7 & V/U Liberty

Just got my XTS2500 III. Pretty nice. A bit heavy but it's the NiCAD battery. I believe it's suppose to do both 700 (our new system that will go live soon) and 800. Right now it's on 700 digital conventional as we do some testing. The range is pretty good for conventional, more than I expected. Don't much care for the digital as the signal weakens. Can post pic if you all would like. I just noticed the antenna states "Motorola 700 800". Mod# is H46UCH9PW7AN with Flash # 5000080004141.

Cool. Just hit the bottom side button 5 time and got a bit more info. It does state 700 800 band and I caught 4 meg.

Interesting....

Motorola has proposed a UHF p25 le system for rockland county NY, with the new GTR3000 repeaters. i belive it is single simulcast system 13 sites 9 channels. XTS2500's & XTS5000's XTL mobiles with ADP encryption. If i remember the LE stands for Legacy Equipment.

They are STILL talking about that. Hasn't the consolidation of communications in RC been hashed over a million times in the past 15 years. With as busy as things are all over the county do they plan to consolidate dispatch into 1 center? Or still continue to have the territorial bits and peices all over the place.

At a quick glance it just appears to be simulcast conventional... am I correct or should I do more than skim.

I've had the xts2500 in 800 for almost 2 years and its a supurb radio. A lot lighter than the xts3K no matter which battery is on it. ;-)

It is interesting that the Motorola .pdf cut sheet has a photo of a firefighter, when NFPA has more or less outlawed the use of trunked radio on the fireground, and we all know what happened in NYC when they tried to use Astro digital voice on direct.

The NFPA has no law writing power. They write standards and agencies can choose to follow the standard or not. There is no crime in not following a NFPA standard however, one might have to defend/justify, in court, why they did not follow a standard.

Just fyi. No "attack" meant just keeping the course. :)

Not to get too off topic...

As much as I agree with you that they are "guidelines", but once a court accepts them and become accepted, you can pretty much figure that its going to be an approved "standard" that you better be following.

But, we have already been there, done that agruement and people will do whatever they are comfortable doing.

Fireground Trunked.

Post by dfc2 »

Don't forget...Most use a simplex freq on fireground channels.

In the case of our county, they use a trunked freq for dispatch and comms until on sacene, then switch to a fireground freq that is simplex.

Same "Could" have been used by FDNY if they wanted... albet in analog mode.....

pd dispatch is going to stay the same..that is each department is gonna dispatch themselves. there is a rumor that EMS is going to go to 44 control.

no it is going to be trunking.

Re: Fireground Trunked.

Post by Hoseman292 »

Our dept. has a few simplex and interop channels programmed but for the most part they like to stay on P25 trunking while "working where it's hot" if you know what I mean. Our policy is that we're supposed to remain on the assigned operational talkgroup unless we can't get out then we can give simplex a try. Wouldn't want anyone to fall down and not be able to use the mandown button (doesn't work on simplex).
