Mtx 8250

Hello this is my first post so please go easy on me. I have an opportunity to pick up a MTX 8250 model # aah25uch6gb6an for a cheap price. My question is ,what are the first 2 letters for? Is this an import of some kind? And is this unit able to funtion on a type Motorola Type II SmartZone
Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface system?

I have no idea what the leading "aa" stands for; hopefully someone else will. In general, the 8250 is the successor to the MTX8000 line, and is considered a "commercial" rather than a "public safety" radio. That said, it will do Type II SmartNet systems just fine, though it lacks access to all of the SmartNet features. I do not believe it will do SmartZone (but am not sure about that) and I'm pretty certain it will not do CAI.

The AA prefix means it is manufactured for the North American market.

The MTX8250 will NOT do SmartNet nor SmartZone. It definitely will not do APCO-25 CAI.

It is also not a Public Safety radio so it cannot access the NPSPAC frequencies above 865MHz.

The 8250 is just a business-band 850-864 Privacy Plus trunked radio.

We have about 200 in use here at an oil Refinery they're a fine radio in my opinion.

We have about 350 of them in use in a couple of tire plants. The main weak point of them is the RF P.A. The MTX850/8250 we've probably had 50 out of the 350 go bad. As opposed to the Jedi series where I can count the number of blown P.A.s I've seen in 10 years/thousands of radios on one hand.

I have a hard time recommending them just because of that. Otherwise, they work & hold up physically just fine.

I have trouble recommending them , I have also experienced PA failures, but it's the only analog Privacy Plus radio they make right now. Extended warranty is your friend here.
