I've got a 16 channel MT1000 that is driving me crazy. Its model number H43GCU7100CN and the serial numbers on the case and in the RSS match. Bandsplit is 157-174Mhz. The radio is an ex US Government radio, since the frequencies are all 169-173Mhz.
What happens is when I try to program in frequencies for the railroad band and the National Weather Service (RX only on the NWS), the railroad frequencies do not work. When I put the channel selector on a RR frequency, shut the radio off, and then power it back on, no radio self test beep will occur. With the power on, i'll move the channel selector to a NWS channel and maybe one other channel, the beep will occur, and I can receive the NWS just fine. If I power off the radio with the channel selector pointing to an NWS frequency, I will get the self test beep when I power it back up. I then reprogrammed using the original codeplug I had saved off, and the radio is back to working properly. I've actually tried this process several times and I get the same results each time.
As a test, I programmed in frequencies that were from 169ish-173.5Mhz. After powering the radio down, I powered it up and everything works fine.
The computer, RIB, and cable are ok, since I used them to program a 99 channel MT1000 and an HT600. The F3 comm test passes ok, and I read from this radio about 15 times before writing to it. The computer is owned and used by a friend in the radio service business, and he's used it to program many other radios, including MT1000s and HT600s.
Any ideas? This one has me pulling out what little hair i've got left.

Sounds like maybe your taking it just a bit down too far when you go to the RR channels and as a result, the VCO isn't locking.

MT1000 Programming Problem
I had the exact same problem with a VHF "A" version 99 channel. The radio was exhibiting the same symptoms you describe. When reading my radio with the software it was showing a bandsplit of 146-174. The "A" version radios only went to 162 and when I changed the bandsplit back everything has been working fine since. I opened my radio to verify the correct part number for the transceiver circuit. So the question is, are you absolutely sure the bandsplit is correct? They also had a 152.9-174 as well as the 146-174 bandsplit. The only way to be 100% sure is to open the radio and check the number of the transceiver circuit board and compare it against the service manual. You can find more information here:

Hope this helps. Please let us know how you make out.

I opened up the MT1000, and found the printing new the flex cables. It showed 146-174 instead of 157-174. I then remembered a post here on the batboards about the Federal Government programming in a wrong bandsplit before selling their radios as surplus.
So, I created a new codeplug with a 146-174 Mhz bandsplit and railroad and local NWS frequency, and it now works fine!
Thanks to everyone for their help!!
