W7 head on a W5 Astro Spectra

Can an Astro Spectra that originally had a W5 head be used with a W7 head with no other modifications?

Sorry if this has been asked before - I did a brief search and came up with nothing.

The difference between the physical control heads A5 and A7 is merely the plastic face.

One will work on the other, but the extra buttons (1-5, * 0 & #) won't work unless the radio is a 'A7' too.
