I keep learning new things about my AS3 everyday. Finally got the belt clip off and found that the FLASHport label just says "Flasport" and does not list the Mfg code. WHY?
The current code found via service is
591001-0C1800-4
Otherwise the radio has the following Host/DSP:
Model # H04KDH9PW7AN
Host R05.60.04
DSP N06.05.02
1 Meg
The label for the Model # and Serial # match the radio via sevice readings.
I am wondering if this could have been a hacked radio. I know it is not a "Nick" FLASH. I also have a thought that a new vocoder may have been put in it. The radio is an eBay find BTW.
Would doing a Firmware upgrade have any effect on the current FLASHcode?

doesn't matter, but yes, your flashcode is most likelyhacked. but that's not the standard 4F1e "nick" / "chicago" flash. It could have a new vocoder in it... anything is possible... depends on the serial # (i.e. age) of your radio.

Nope. Just much improved IMBE vocoder performance with DSP 8.

Being a hacked radio basically means someone already went thru the trouble to put options in the radio that I wold have wanted anyway I guess. Basically tho I will most likely not use many of them except IMBE and probably MODAT.
In the FLASH decoder I put "C" as the only character in the string and it does show Q352 and Q351. It would be my guess that this represents NON standard options. As I have read here many times MODAT has been argued to be proprietary to LAPD only (according to the big /\/\ anyway).

Soft Id is really cool. Basically the radio lets you put in a user defined string of characters that are transmitted as part of the P25 embedded data.
The idea is that a radio might be assigned to a function, for example "One Adam Twelve". The system will see the radio's hard ID on every transmission and the dispatcher will know that the radio belongs to One Adam Twelve.
But depending on the day and shift - the question is - which officer is actually carrying that radio? So at the shift change, when the new shift picks up the radio, the officer coming on duty presses the 'Menu' key, then scrolls to 'ID' and keys in "MALLOY"
On the next transmission the dispatcher sees exactly who is carrying the radio. Also, other radios on the channel that have the ID display option show the soft ID. First the radio shows the hard ID [number only on Astro Sabers and XTS3000] and then the display switches to the soft ID. The new XTS5000 radios display the alias for the hard ID first and then switch to the soft ID.
Of course, you can key in anything you want, like "BITE ME" for your friends to see on your next transmission.
