What radios do you own?: never goin out without a radio

SABER 8K Display Board Question

Post by petrus »

Hi everybody,
I just programmed a SABER 8K Display Board as a 2K Board (... by accident).

Does anybody know how do I could reset the Display-EEPROM? Now it's impossible
to reprogram the board as an original 8K board.

All the time the programmer tells me:"The radio External EEPROM is only
2k in size. The radio File is for a 8k External EEPROM".

Best greetings
Andreas

Load a 2k codeplug and write to the radio, when it gets a few dots into programming shut the radio off, click through the nag screens, then load an 8k codeplug and turn the radio back on and program it.

I have done that a few times to restore a radio that had an 8k front programmed as a 2k by using the memory delete in radio features. By shutting it off during the write cycle your deliberately screwing up whats in the radio so the next time you try to program it doesn't know what it is.

My words exactly...that will do the trick no questions asked!

8K reprogram should be a smooth operation straight away!

Thanks kb0nly,
... to restore a radio that had an 8k front programmed as a 2k by using
the memory delete in radio features. By shutting it off during the write cycle
your deliberately screwing up whats in the radio so the next time you try
to program it doesn't know what it is.
The radio works perferctly with another 8K-Code Plug. There are
no read/write problems using a second 8K-Front.

But if I'm using the first 8K-Board (wich was programmed as an 2K-Board)
with that radio, every time the programmer tells me:
"The radio External EEPROM is only 2k in size. The radio File is for a 8k External EEPROM".

I think, there is still a Display-Board problem not a radio problem. What do You think about that?

Thanks, best greetings.

Ok, let's backup a second....

You said it was due to a programming error so i assume you know for sure that it is an 8k front and it worked as such before.

With that said.. Put the radio together with the 8k front that is programmed as a 2k. Fire up your RSS and get a 2k codeplug loaded, the reason is you need to get it to the actual writing stage and it won't do that if you try an 8k codeplug because it will stop you with the error message.

While it's writing that 2k codeplug to External, which is the front memory, let it get a couple dots into programming it then shut off the radio, the RSS will complain, just hit whatever F key to get through all the error messages. Now turn the radio back on, you will get an ERR message on the display because of the corrupt front panel programming.

Load or create from scratch an 8k codeplug and program to the radio. It should program just fine, i have done that numerous times to get radios back to 8k after being programmed with the memory delete option to make it a 2k.

Thanks kb0nly,

I tried a couple of times using vers. R07, it didn't worked. After this I
used the older vers. R05: It was no problem to solve the problem (don't
know why ... normally all the time I'm using vers. R07)
Now the 8K-Board works as an 8K-Board- thanks a lot :D.

Best greetings

That's odd that version 7 wouldn't but version 5 would. Oh well, at least it worked!!

I use Version 6.28 and version 7. I have restored 8k functionality with both. You have to be quick and let no more than 2 or 3 dots go by.

For some reason a lot of the Gov surplus VHF sabers Fire scrounged were programmed as 2K radios.
