Automatic Man Down Featured Radio??

Post by dittrimd »

My boss has asked me to get individuals who work by themselves after hours a "Man Down" radio. As he describes it the radio when placed horizontally for some period of time will automatically transmit an emergency tone. I have dealt with quite a few radios and have only seen a manual press man down/officer distress capability. Has anyone ever heard or seen a radio or add on device that can do this? Please advise.

Thanks,

Mark

yup... there are addons that can be added into the radio, mostly by aftermarket manufacturers like cimmaron......

most ericsson radios have available an "emergency" lanyard, that, instead of a button, you pull a string.....

What radios do you own?: APX / Astro 25 / Harris

Tilt switches exist that will do what you want. The MTSX Jedi version comes to mind. It connected to the ACC port on the side of the radio. 60 degrees of angle comes to mind as the trigger requirement.

The NTN7660C is the external "Public Safety Tilt Switch" for HT1000, MT2000, XTS series, etc. We used a number of those a few years ago in our jail. The 24/7 use of the radios wasn't too good for them so we finally did away with them. Not much to repair, replace only. In a "one person, one radio" use I'm sure they would last longer. They did work if an officer was "down" for a few seconds but they also went off by accident sometimes when the officers would sit down or remove the radio from their belt.

I was about to say the same thing. I've heard that for PD applications its not really that useful...as it is for Fire applications.

we have them in hT1250's. Very programable (tilt angle, time, waring tone, movement alarm, lack of movement alarm).
