rs232 to usb with RLN4008B Rib?

Post by techno »

I have a new laptop that does not have a rs232 port. Does anyone have advise on how to interface a RLN4008B to the computer? It there a special USB to RS232 adapter I should use? I tryed a Belkin F5U409 USB to RS232 adapter and it did not work. Computer has windows XP and is a new fast machine. Software installed and runs OK.

This has been covered at great length any number of times. A little time with the search function will probably turn up a wealth of information.

Here's the short version, one more time: USB to serial adapters will not work reliably. There are people who have had some limited success, but they are few, far between, and inconsistent. On the other hand, PCMCIA serial cards, like the ones from Quatech, have proven to be rock solid, with no problems whatsoever.

Thanks! I bought a SIIG PCMCIA serial to USB card and it works perfectly. I took your advice and did a search and the Quatech and SIIG PCMCIA cards seemed to get the best reviews. CDW carries the SIIG model PCM012 for $56. Thanks again,
