Is " Digital Key " needed for Analog Trunking Audi

A member suggested that if the " Digital Key " is not present, then the Astro Saber will not receive even Analog trunking systems even though the LCD shows it stopping on active talk groups and all is programmed properly. The radio receives Conventional 800 just fine, but no receive audio on Analog trunking.

What is the " Digital Key "? Is it provided by the Flash code, the RSS, the Firmware ?

Geo, DO a search on "System Key" it's all there, plenty of reading for you...
It's NOT something you'll likely be able to get your hands on, and just for reference, it's not a physical key (if it were it would be a cross between medeco's high end and Abloy) it's actually a data file which can be stored on USB keys.

I guess I'm wondering if what was called a " Digital Key " is the same thing as a System Key. Are these terms used interchangably?

System keys are present in the SYS_KEYS directory.

I've never heard of a "digital key" in Motorola trunking. If the radio is stopping on the correct talkgroups, but not unmuting, I'd suspect the "digital modulator type" is set incorrectly (in the 'digital' tab under trunking systems in CPS).

Perhaps they meant an encryption key? If the transmissions were encrypted, and your radio had an encryption module with an incorrect key loaded, it also wouldn't unmute then.

If its recieving talkgroups, your ok as far as the system key goes.

As Wavetar mentions, the "ASTRO Capable System" box needs to be checked off, and that the digital talkgroups should be set to "Digital" under the talkgroup screen.

If all is well, it may be possible that the talkgroup is encypted, so your not going to hear anything unless you have

1-the proper encyption module in the radio
2-the proper encyption "key" which is loaded by a special device held by the system owner. You cannot "spoof" this as there are a few billion combinations out there. A partial key does not give you a partial conversation. Its all or nothing.

I'm inclined to feel that there is an improper setting in the RSS. These two TRS are analog and non-encrypted and not digital systems. I believe that SecureNet was disabled, but will check that, too.

I also recall an option for " digital audio ". Would this, too, be a factor?

What is the flashcode of the radio, and what flavor of TRS is it?

I assume you have a valid ID on the system?
