Help with bandsplit and available options

Post by kcallis »

I have inadvertantly bidded on a Saber III with the following model number:
H44TUK5170CN
Is there anyway to determine what the band split might be? Also I don't understand what TUK means... I look on the Model Specific page on batlabs, but I don't need any listing about TUK.

Thanks,

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

Motorola model numbers NEVER tell you what the bandsplit of a radio is. The ONLY way to find out is to read the radio with the proper RSS or to open the radio and look at the subassembly part numbers. What you CAN determine from the model number (H44TUK5170CN) is that it is a handheld (H), high power (4)(in this case 5 Watts), UHF (the second 4), full keyboard (the K in TUK)(the T & U are radio series identifiers, in this case System Saber) and finally some of the various options.

H44TUK5170cn is a UHF System SaberIII 16 channel. Model number does not indicate the bandsplit. You need to read the radio with RSS to determine bandsplit.

This was on E-Pay... Originally, he posted it as a VHF Saber III, then later changed it to a UHF Saber III. I always assume that when I person doesn't post any specs, they are trying to dump a 403-433MHz Saber III.

I got the regular line about "A ham buddy of mine, told me that is was a UHF radio, but I don't know what the band spit [sic] is on the radio". So I am going to assume he is clueless and trying to sell a 403 Saber III.

k2hz said that it is a 16 channel Saber III... Isn't that 16 channels by 10 zones (maybe even 16 zones since I see people claiming to to have 255 channels available!).

It's a 255 channel radio. K2HZ probably meant 16 channels per zone.

Read up on Sabers on this board. eBay is a crap shoot for Sabers, and it's
full of idiots selling Sabers they know little or nothing about. Knowing nothing
or less does not keep these birds from lying through their teeth in the hope of
snagging some other equally uninformed person. If they can't guarantee the
bandsplit don't buy from them, period, EVER. If they guarantee the bandsplit,
and something else puts you off (lousy feedback, something similar) then get
a return privilege and make them post it in the auction if you can.

The world is full of 403-433 mHz Sabers of all types these days. Also you should
read up on Sabers at the http://www.batlabs.com site. Most of what you need to
know can be found both on this board and at the main Batlabs site.
