SP50 Speaker Not Working

Post by ralphwarren »

Wonder what might be wrong with my SP50. The radio makes no sound.

The speaker works in a diff radio. An external speaker/mic works fine. The volume knob works fine with the external speaker/mic. The MON button makes no sound when you push it - but does for the external speaker/mic.

Is there anything on the board that fails that can be repaired? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks for any help.

Ralph, as a starting place, check the flex that connects the front housing to the main board. It may be broken, cracked, or simply not seated properly onto the main board.

The speaker/mic jacks go bad on them and does not make contact for the internal speaker. The dual jack is not that hard to change out on the SP50.

We used to have a lot of problems with the speaker/mic connector not enabling the internal speaker when nothing was plugged into it.
Also, as I recall, it was a bear to replace.
