Help with Tone remote

Post by Mikey »

i just installed a CPI tone remote adapter on a desktop repeater that i own, I picked the rx. audio off the back of the internal speaker in the repeater. I cannot hear any audio coming out the tone remotes, but i can key up the transmitter and activate the monitor with the remotes. I am trying to control this adapter with a Comtegra console. I am not sure if the console is the problem or the CPI interface. I checked all the jumpers in the console and it is set for 2-wire operation Tone remote. Any idea's would greatly be helpfull

Without knowing more about the particular radio, my guess is that by paralleling off the internal speaker, you've dragged impedence down so low that audio is hard to hear. If the repeater has a separate audio output for remote use, tap that. Otherwise, you'll have to either abandon the internal speaker or goose the Z of the TRA's audio tap. (Some have internal strapping to do exactly that.)

The speaker is not an appropriate place to pick up the RX audio. Did you follow the CPI installation instructions that call for a minimum of 75mv of squelched fixed level audio at the RX input and then adjust the RX gain for 0dBm into the line?

What audio input level are you getting at the input with your speaker connection and what level are you sending to the line?
