Upgrading option on an MTS2000

Post by ayaresr »

Recently I posted a question regarding cloning an MTS2000 from one with trunking to one without. Looks like the answer is that it won't allow it or just won't work in general. So, here is my next question. I started the phone calls to the big M this past Friday, but didn't have a chance to finish, so I intend to work more on that Monday morning. I would like to know if anyone here has any experience with obtaining the upgrades for a radio from Motorola. Also, if this is possible, do I need to smart rib to upgrade the radio, or will the standard one work?
Thanks in advance

If it's FlashPort, I believe that you need a SmartRib. You could do a 'franken flash', but I believe that's a lengthy discussion covered in another topic, you may want to do a search on it.

if you are not the original owner of the radio Motorola don't always like to give you the upgrades. yes, you do need a smartrib to flash a mts.

Did some more reading...Is it the firmware that I am upgrading to add this option? Also, if I purchase this (smarnet trunking) option from Motorola, do I specify to them that this is the option I am looking for, or ask them just for a firmware update?

It is an option you are adding, so you do have to specify what option(s) you want. They will also want your serial numbers & flashcode. The FLASHport upgrade will add the option(s), as well as upgrade the firmware to the latest & greatest version.
