USE EXTREME CARE WHEN PROGRAMMING PORTABLES WITH THE ASTRO25 USB CABEL.... I had an 800Mhz XTS5000 attached to the USB programing cable, read and wrote the radio, when it rebooted, it auto afiliated (and there for transmited) The USB cable picked up this RF and fried the USB board on my lap top. Make sure your cables are no where near the antenna when programming an 800 that will start on a trucked channel.

Strange...I've programmed hundreds of 800MHz SmartZone XTS5000/2500 radios with the USB cable, never once had an issue. You are also the first I've heard this from on the board. Not saying it didn't happen, lots of things can go wrong when you're dealing with electronics, but I don't believe it's something that's going to happen to anyone on a regular basis.

i use the same usb cable several times a day and never had any problems. that cable is also made to turn the radio into a modem so there shouldn't be any issues with any radio transmitting while plugged into it.

I program 5-k's all the time, and mine affiliate after programming, so I'm not sure about that modem thing.HLA wrote:i use the same usb cable several times a day and never had any problems. that cable is also made to turn the radio into a modem so there shouldn't be any issues with any radio transmitting while plugged into it.
I never have had a problem with my laptop getting cooked, either. Must have been one of those days.

You didn't mention if this is a factory cable or 3rd party.....
