NTN7209/NTN1168 "Smart" Charger...still Stupid!!

Post by kd6rfs »

Hi,
I left a earlier post about my NTN7209A rapid charger or World charger as I've heard it called, turning green after only 5 minutes of charging red on 2 new motorola batteries, my older drop-in NTN7212 rapid charger, charges for a hour before turning green, with the same batteries.....these NTN7143 batteries are only 2 months old...and work fine they are NiCad 1200mah....this is the second unit sent that is doing this same thing...and nobody including Motorola techs can figure it out??? The first unit did the same thing, turning green after exactly 5 minutes on red....so the seller, checked 3 other units, and found that 2 at his shop did the same thing mine was, the third supposedly worked fine....I just recieved it, and again, the same thing, green in 5 minutes flat!!! My vehicular charger, mounted in my car, charges these same batteries fine, and so does my reg rapid rate drop-in, they both stay red for an hour, then turn green when done... I am just outta of energy dealing with this thing! this smart charger is really stupid!! the only reason I bought it is because I thought it was a way better rapid charger for the jedi-series...I really dont kno0w what is so special about it, why they even made it, if the reg. drop-in style does the same thing, I called Motorola, and after 5 times being transfered, they dont even know by themselves what the trouble is.....Any help would be appreciated...Thanks, David KD6RFS

sorry, this is going to hurt.

drop the $125 it costs and buy a WPLN4111 rapid charger.

that will be the end of your charger woes, forever.

even if something changes (i.e. NEW CHEMISTRY)

the WPLN4111 impres charger is FIRMWARE RE-FLASHABLE

yea...he has those too, I didnt ask the price...but he did say they are expensive...i'm gonna stck with my old style drop-in rapid rate charger that works like a dream and never failed me yet....charges the batteries all the way up, red for a hour or more.....this NTN7209A charger looks cool, but I think its a piece of crap....I've also heard some people say it overcharges too and kills batteries...I noticed Motorola went back to the old drop-in style charger look, even with the XTS....which actually would fit in my charger as well...This NTN7209A is the worst Motorola product I ever dealt with (Except those darn TalkAbouts every idiot and his mom are getting now!) I just bought a Impres charger for my saber/XTS on E-bay for $ 75.00. This was a new in the box charger too.
