W5 Control Head ALWAYS on with Main Power??? *SOLVED*

Post by jmr061 »

Ok, I took possession of an Astro Spectra Dashmount radio. It has a W5 control head. The control head power switch does NOTHING. When power is applied to the main power plug the radio powers on. It does not need power applied to the 15 pin accessory connector. I have verified that it is something to do with the control head board, not the radio or interconnect. All the control head jumpers are in default positions.

Any ideas how to get it back to normal?

It ended up Q51 was bad. Now to order it, its a whopping 25 cents.

I have a W7 head that does the same exact thing. Since I don't have an Astro service manual, where on the board is Q51 located and could you possibly post a pic?
