Can a 512K Saber have DSP version 8?

Post by Romario »

My buddy claims he bought a saber at dayton that has a 512K vocon and his DSP firmware version is 8? I thought you could only do this with a 1-meg vocon board? He says his host firmware is 5.60.

If someone removes the dsp chip off the vocon, has the proper equipement to read and write dsp to the chip then it can be done. Can it be done a legit way, NO. I should also add that I have heard host and dsp are paired to work with each other, whether or not this is true I dont know. If it is then your friend may have some issues.

You can actually have DSP8 is a 512k board. I also have an ASTRO Saber with DSP8 on a 512k board, You just cannont have a HOST higher than 5.6.

They are rare, but they are out there. 1meg boards start at HOST 7.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system
