re-casing an xts5k help

Post by hamptonbeach »

I have an xts5k modII that I an changing the black case to a safety yellow version.

Without learning how the guts come out by destroying the black case, can someone tell me exactly which way to pry and how much pressure is needed to pull it away from the case?

motorola makes a tool to do this properly.

using a screwdriver can be done - but you must be careful not to crack the case.

remove antenna

insert screwdriver in slot at bottom center of the housing in the gap between the metal frame and plastic housing.

use a 3/16" dull flat blade screwdriver

insert and gently pull towards you and the case/chassis will separate.

the knobs and everything come off with the front - no need to remove them.

be careful not to pinch the o ring

The replacement (from M) case that I got had a decent instruction sheet that shows you what goes where. They also recommend that you replace the knob seals as the plastic? around it is prone to easy damage when you remove it.

I'll see if I still have the sheet with the p/n's
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system
