M120 PIN 8 FUNCTION.......AGAIN!

Post by GrampZ »

Sorry if this is a redo,
I searched for the answer but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I've got a stack of M120 2ch 16 pin 403mhz radios to use for half duplex links in the 420-430 band.
We know that there is no F9 "option" programming. When used in the "radio" mode, RX, TX, decode, encode work fine but NO COS on pin 8. When programmed in the "repeater" mode, COS is present on pin 8 but no TX.
It seems you only get the COS at the ACCY connector when the radio is programmed as a repeater receiver.
Since it appears the circuitry is present to make the COS signal, I'd like to figure out how to enable it in the "radio" mode and not have to hack/duplicate the COS buffer circuit. I have the Maxtrac books but not Radius schematics. Can I just cut a trace/add a jumper to bypass the CPU choosing this function off in the radio mode?
These are 40W radios, getting about 28W out now and plan on running them at 5 to 10W. Do these behave well with the output turned down that far? Or is it possible to just jumper out the final and get the mid gain PA stage power? Done this with Micor and Mitreks but new to Maxtracs.

Thanks!!

Shoot! I may be wrong. I just hooked up my test radio and seem to have the COS low available in radio mode. Looks like it's just sinking so it wasn't apparent without a pullup. I had been looking for a high/low signal and it's just a low when active.

More to come!!!

I believe you're correct on the COS just sinking low. You should be able to run 5-10 watts with the M120 no problem. They can get flakey if you go much below 5 though.
