Help, XTL2500 Programming

Post by RADIO43 »

Guys,

My department just got a bunch of XTL2500's (Model# M21SSM9PW1AN). I have the ASTRO25 Mobile Software but I noiced that it must use a different programming cable than the XTL5000. The Mic connector is obviously different that the XTL5000. Is there a diffrent cable or different connector? Thanks in advance.....

It uses a different cable. Serial ribless that plugs into the mic connector (round plug).

Call 1-800-422-4210 for the part number, price, and availability.

The serial ribless cable for the 2500's is part # HKN6183A, they can be had for less than $100.00

True, list price is $63.25.

Best bet is to get it from /\/\ directly, as there is no wholesale discount on there. Unless there are dealers around that sell stuff at cost, ha ha!

Should buy the USB cable
I benchmarked a flash upgrade today
Serial cable 4 minutes and 53 seconds
USB cable 1 minute 42 seconds
I tried the same test on some XTS5000 and XTS2500 radios
Same sort of result.
I'll never buy a serial cable again

I thought the CPS didn't support serial for programming the XTL2500? We were early adopters, getting our XTL2500s when they were first released and the USB programming calbe would not work. I haven't checked with the latest CPS as we sent the USB version cables back for the serial cables.

It was a XTL5000 (not 05 CH)
My mistake
I'll look at the CPS and see if there is a new part number for USB.

there is a USB cable for the 05 head but it was for flash upgrades only, it wouldn't work with the CPS for programming. That was with CPS 6.0.

Maybe the 7.0.x version now supports USB?

My only caution with USB is there's a small chance the FLASHport upgrade will fail & brick the radio. We upgraded nearly 300 XTS2500 units, using both USB & serial cables. Our flashing times were similar to what Bruce posted...however we had 6 flash failures with the USB cable, compared to zero with the serial. Take it for what it's worth.

After 320 flashes i have had 1 with serial and none with USB.
But only about a 1/3 is with USB,
All mine are under warranty anyway so I don't care if the odd one fails
