XTS3000 Programming

Post by radiogirl »

I would like to know if there are any people willing to program for a fee an XTS3000 on some ham frequencies?? The local Motorola dealer says it is against Moto's policy to program single radios and I would have to be a member of a P.S. agency. Is this correct?? I just want to use some Moto equipment on the ham freq's as I like commercial eqipment better. Thanks :-?

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

that is total BS crap about programming privately owned radios on CONVENTIONAL freqs, as long as you are licensed (and being that you are a ham and want ham channels programmed) there is nothing prohibiting them from doing it, other than they just don't want to. Programming it to TRUNKED systems or public safety conventionals is indeed another story.

I'd say look around for another dealer. Or you can post an ad in the f/s/wanted board and I'm sure you'll have no shortage of offers to help.

The dealer obviously does not want your business, hopefully you won't ever go to him again :x Motorola has no policy about programming single radios or that only PS agencies can have XTS3ks programmed, so they are either lying to you or misinformed.

Now if you wanted some non-ham freqs programmed in there you might have a different story, depending on who those freqs belong to and what kind of system they are operating :)

I'll throw the bs flag in on that.

They can program your radio, they just don't want to.

That is, unless you are asking them to program it on PS freqs.

The dealer probably does not have the required CPS and instead of saying "we can't do it" it saves face if he says "Motorola won't let us do it.
Motorola has never (20 years as an MSS) said that we are not allowed to program anything into any radio. FCC is a different story. As long as the user is authorized for use on the frequency, there are no restrictions.

An MSSS I worked for about 15 years ago had the same policy,
Not interested in single radios and not interested in Ham frequencies.
In fact not interested unless you have a maintenance contract or at least 20 radios.

Key words "not interested"

I understand that. BUt to lie and say it's moto's policy, well that is a violation of one of the 10 commandments.

Yup, total B.S.

What area of the country are you located in? If we knew it might help in finding a sympathetic Ham to help you out.

There are other dealers that will handle it for you, but I can't thik of any in the immediate NO area. Kay comes to mind, but I think the closest shop is in Lake Charles.
