Saber II transmit problem

Post by skip3714 »

Hope there is a wizard out there that can help keep this radio from driving me to drinking. It is a Saber II, factory ID#: H43QXJ7139CN. I have checked RSS under radio options and all setting seem to be good, also I have four (4) other radios running the same program. When PTT is pressed a tone is heard and the LED lights, but listening to another radio, not transmit audio is present. If the ERGO switch placed from clear to secure, the radio transmit great. With regards to the receiver, it works great. Hope someone has the answer. Thanks in advance. Skip

We've been wrangling this back and forth for most of the day, and all I keep coming back to, is the main board.

With the modules allowing transmit and receive, as well as secure, the operation of the switch in secure mode is performed by the main board, micro and audio/signaling, Etc...

I will be looking in the manual tonight, but I am 99.99% certain the problem is due to a section of a component failure, so I would suggest swapping that board with a known good one and note the differences.

This could be a problem due to a cold/bad solder joint or bead on the underneath of one of the BGA packages that are on the rear of the radio.

These boards do get flexed when they are serviced out of the case, and they do develop intemittents as well, due to this flexing.

If testing reveals a defective board, put tape on it and mark it's defect so you don't make the mistake of attempting to use it again.
