Astro Spectra VHF Rx has an intermittent sound

Post by levap2way »

Hello, I have an Astro Spectra VHF Model # T04KLH9PW9AN. Power is ok but the Rx has an intermittent sound. The rare thing is that the Rx sensitivity is perfect about 0.2 µv, but I listen all intermittent. I would like to know if that problem is a setting problem or any of the boards is damaged?

I had the VOCON board exchanged from another radio and the problem is gone. The questions are: Can I exchanged the VOCON board and keep all radio settings and serial #, or that info is stored on the comand board? Is that problem with the VOCON board a setting or hardware problem, can it be fix or I have to replaced it? I got that VOCCON from a same model spare unit I have.

The VOCON stores ALL the info for the radio. It is possible to blow the s-rec from the radio into a diff vocon but you should still have the radio tuned. After tuning it should be back to normal. Of course the host/dsp of the replacement vocon will probably not be the same as the bad one.

Thanks for reply. All info means serial number too, or just freq. and settings? I now after replaced the vocon board, the radio has to be retuned, but that's it? How about if after exchanged the vocon board radio work just fine Rx and Tx and have the setting I need, is there something else I have to do?
