XTS5000 ruggedized question - Accessories

Post by fly_on_the_wall »

will an instrinsically safe battery off a standard xts5k work with a ruggedized ?

also same question for the speaker mic ?

does using these accessories make the radio non ruggedized ?

probably a stupid question but i need to ask as i have a few accessories off my old 5k which is not ruggedized and i have payed for but yet to receive a ruggedized 5k

All the accessories should still mechanically and electrically work, as far as I know.

Ruggedized refers only to the radio itself. It's still ruggedized even if it's got no antenna, no battery, and no audio accessories connected.

You probably want to make sure that all the batteries and accessories you're going to use with it are rated for IS for the XTS5K ruggedized - though I suspect if they were IS rated for the non-ruggedized 5K they'll work for the ruggedized 5K just fine.

Ruggadized radios are genericly IS.
If you want the radio to remain IS there are some basic rules.
Only Motorola approved accessories can be used
This means if you put a non ruggadized battery on a ruggadized radio it is no longer IS even if the battery is IS.
No engraving allowed.

Other accessories will work but it's no longer certafiable as IS.
If your enviroment is IS stick with the proper stuff.
Noiw if you want real good go for Cenelec standard.
You can change the battery in a methane saturated enviroment
Also if you open the radio replace all the seals.
But then we had to go on refresher courses at Mot every 6 months and all radios had to be signed offby another IS certified tech.
Mind you we had service contracts for off shore platforms so it had to be perfect
