Astro Saber Question

Post by mikegilbert »

Hi Guys.

I searched, but couldn't find a solid answer to my question.

Just recieved an Astro Saber II.

R 07.02.02
DSP 07.03.10
100008-000000-0
310AYEXXXX

I was told it had a 1-meg board in it, but I'm getting "unknown" in the display insead of the usual 1-meg.

According to Motorola's reference sheet, it was built in March of 1998 and is reband-able.

So the main question is: Is this a 512k radio given that the service menu lists "unknown" as the vocon size?

I've been so naive living in the realm of 3000's and 5000's

Thanks.

FYI, a 512k radio *CANNOT* have a DSP higher than 6.xx

so i think it's safe to say you have a 1 meg radio... unless it's hax0r'd up.... which is unlikely... but possible (there are ways to fit DSP 8 into a 512k radio.... just not a good idea as the HOST firmware won't fit in the 512k eeprom)

It's fresh off a system from a big user, so it's safe to say it's not hacked
[hopefully]

Thanks Doug.

conflict between what you think you have and what
the radio thinks it is.
Huh? The "4" bit in the first nybble is Q806 Digital ID Display. That means the radio will read out the MDC ID on the display. There is no requirement that a display radio have Q806 in the flashcode... indeed, I've seen several XTS3000 Mod 3s that have factory tags which begin with 1 (lacking Digital ID Display). Get the facts straight.

I'd say the radio has likely been flashed in the field for some reason, causing the UNKNWN readout. Regardless, it IS a 1-meg...
