I have an industrial customer with a large alerting system (data application) currently running type1 radios. We are upgrading him to Astro trunking (MTC3600 controller) and the type1 stuff will no longer work.
I am curious if the XTL-1500/2500/5000 series radios can accept an rs232 signal and be used as a rf modem without modifying the radio?
Thanks!
Sam

Data Application on Astro Trunking.. XTL2500?
"The state of the art may well have exceeded the state of the need"
I have some XTS2500 radios working in my Moscad for monitoring generators etc. So they should work for your aplication. I've never read them except to program the id so I don't know what the flash code is but this is on a SZ4.1 mixed mode Astro.
Next time I'm at a site with radio I'll read one and see what the setup is.

Bear in mind that this is XTS series and not XTL.
Moscad is not available with XTL radios (Well not in my price book)
There is also the rebanding that may be related.
The XTL series will not work on SystemWatch, SMS etc. Although there are some modem options. I'll see if I can find some details and let you
know. It may be unrelated but that is why Mot is still suppling MCS radios for System Watch.
What radios were you using as type I for the aplication?

They are old Maxtrac radios.
I spoke with "Pre-Sales Tech Support" at Motorola, and they said the XTL2500 mobile would do the job... but something about delays on their end as I asked my questions made me think that the guy didn't really understand what I need.

From a (probably old) XTL2500 sheet I have. Maybe you could ask the guy about these:
ADD: RS232 DATA INTFC CABLE-DASH G303
Corresponding kit: HKN6160.
ADD: RS232 DATA INTERFACE CABLE-TRUNK G304
Corresponding kit: HKN6161.
ADD:RS232 PACKET DATA INTERFACE W947
This option is ONLY Operational on Digital Trunking and Digital Conventional systems!!
INCLUDES the DLM Application. This option does not include Cables. G303 or G304 should be ordered separately.
There's also this... (for System Watch?)
ENH: ENABLE RF MODEM G319
