Yup... although I've heard tales of non-ASTRO-marked HLN1185Bs working just fine on Astro radios.

Regardless, if you do need an 1185E, they can be found on eBay usually for cheap.

Hey thanks for the response guys. I have a systems 9000 siren box and my astro spectra "sees" that its there. I can choose pa and other siren options on the control head, however, I hear nothing. Oddly though, the heat sink seems to get really hot (I know the siren speaker is good). I decided to go ahead an pick up a astro siren off of ebay for 20 bucks, Ill see what happens and post it.

Beware, the 1185s are really picky about speaker type. I've seen more than one that's had the speaker short functionality removed due to this issue (yeah, I've done a few myself). If it's getting hot, I'd be seriously considering a speaker problem or problem in the lead from the box to the speaker.

what kind of speaker do you suggest. Right now im using a brand new whelen 100 watt siren speaker. I have used this, and federal signal dynamax speakers, on several federal gov vehicles before without incident.

I have never had an issue using a B series or later siren on an astro spectra. I would suspect the siren amp or speaker is bad. Warning regarding the Dynamax and Motorola Systems 9000 siren amp, the first Dynamaxs would get blown out from the Motorola amp. FS has claimed to have fixed this issue but I am not convinced of it yet.

We've run a pair of Dynamaxs on an 1185B (driven by an X9000) modded to 130 watts with no problem. Maybe the 130 watts into 200 watts of speaker gives it enough buffer to not have a problem? We did have to disable the speaker short functionality.

My recommendation would be the Whelen SA314P.
