CDM Remote mounting head problem

Post by precoislen »

Went to do an remote mount kit install this week end for the first time.

I porgrammed the radio like up and powered it up and tested it out and it worked fine.

Went thru the proper steps to take the radio apart and hook up the remote mount kit, and the radio wouldn't power back up. Went thru and double checked the cabling from the radio chassis to the remote head and it was okay. Then started checking how I did the little flexible rib cables. I think my problem lies with in how the flexible rib cables were installed.

In the process I forgot to pull the power cord off the radio and on the part of the remote head that connects to the display portion and has the telephone cord type connection in the back of it. Well the flexible rib sort of pulled out of it a little bit and something started smoking. :o
So it looks like I will be in the market soon for a new remote mount kit, and need help toubleshooting what I did wrong so I don't make the same mistake again with the new one.

Anyway, ended up disconnecting everything and popped the display head back on the chassis and the radio works fine.

I wonder if you some how reversed the flex connectors? They have a black dot or 0 marked on the cable and on all pieces (Radio, Control head, remote head) incase you forget how it came apart. I have seen one side reversed with no fatal effects but maybe the results are more fatal when both ends are reversed.
