How Much?

Post by Terry_Glover »

I picked up a couple of MTS2000 A7's with the 403-470MHz split a while back for a couple hundred dollars each. I'm really impressed with the features and quality of these radios and the fact that they were made here in the U.S.

I got wondering last night after having the radios programmed and using them for a couple of days, just how much they cost new when they were still in production.

I saw a list somewhere awhile back (I thought it was here on BatLabs) that had the prices of old Motorola equip. when that equip was still in production.

Anyone know where I can find such a list? OR, anyone know the cost new of an MTS 2000, UHF 403-470MHz with a full keypad?

Just curious... Thank you,
Terry

What's the flash...

it'll be a ######-######-# type number that comes up after FLASHCD is shown on the screen (or something similar.)

The firmware version is what you posted, which is a good version to have - but the flash determines cost.

Forgive my ignorance.... Let me try to find it.

I'm only getting the firmware, model no. and serial no. after pushing the bottom button 5 times.

I'll get out the service manual and see if I can figure out how to find the "Flashcode".

A7 MTS? Whats the model number? It should have a W1 in it....

Sounds to me that perhaps you have a MT2000 with a MTS sticker on it...

Well gee, I don't know what the heck I have here? I should have said that they are MTS2000 Type III's instead of A7's.

OK, I've got two supposedly MTS2000 Type III's. After pushing the monitor button 5 times here is what's displayed:

On The First Radio;

Service>
R05.44 >
HO1RDH9PW1BN>
466AVN2291>
RF Test. Then stops scrolling

On The Second Radio;

Service>
R05.53>
HO1RDH9PW1BN>
466AWG5310>
RF Test. Then stops scrolling

These numbers match the tags exactly on both radios except the first radio has an X following the serial no. on the TAG, and the second radio has a Z following the serial no. on the TAG.

The tags on both radios indicate that they are MTS2000's. The FCC ID no. is AZ489FT4781, which coincidently is exactly the same as the FCC ID on my KNOWN TO BE MT2000's.

Anybody got a clue as to what these really are?

Uhhhhhhhhh, at the risk of sounding simple, you have a pair of MTS2000's.

Firmware gives it away, mt2k's don't have firmware in that range.

depending on the contract, your radios were in the high $1900-2200ish range when new.

your radios have NO flashcode. they are just basic 160 channel conventional models without trunking... hence, no display.

I beg to differ.

With firmware version of 5. 44 he will not see the flashcode on the display.
Have an MTS2000 800 mhz with 5.44 firmware that DOES NOT SHOW the flashcode on the display in the test mode. Shows up in the RSS.

If the factory tags are black (not the white reprints the Depot puts on), check the lower left corner (very bottom) there may or may not be a 13 digit number (that is where the flashcode appears on my radio)

If I'm not mistaken the flashcode didn't start showing up in the "test" mode until version 6.xxx

OK, I have black factory tags on both radios and the 13 digit number in the lower left corner on both of those tags is 000004-000000-6.

So, I reckon that is the flashcode.

Next question; What does this flashcode mean?

BTW, thanks to you guys who replied. The seemingly insignificant answers and comments you provided here is newly learned knowledge/information for me... and for that I am grateful!

How is the date of manufacture determined (MTS 2000 & MT 2000)?

I would assume one would be able to decipher it from the serial number, correct?
