Hybrid Ford Escape

Post by jjc319 »

Has anyone done a radio install in a hybrid vehicle ye. I have a Ford Escape Hybrid scheduled for a CDM1250 install. I was curious about where to make the 12 volt connections. I haven't examined the vehicle yet, but was hoping for some insight.

You can easily tap into power by popping off the 120v inverter/12v plug. Within this void you will find a 12v tap that is ignition switched.

There is also a grommet underneath the drivers side kick panel that you can run associated cabling through.

Check out this thread on the FEH...a quick search would have easily yielded this...and it is not a "freestyle" it is a Ford Escape Hybrid...don't know where they got that!

FYI I also own one as my daily driver....so let me know if you need any assistance.

Not sure if it will help at all but you can take a look at the following PDF. It's got details on the electrical system.

That's the emergency response guide...good guide for places to make sure not to tap into!

Just like other hybrid vehicles, most everything that is carrying HV is either marked, colored, or wrapped in bright orange loom.

If you are just doing a simple radio install though, it should be simple enough to tap into the fuse box, which is located to the right of the center shifter, or into the power tap listed above.

The most complicated task you will probably encounter is where to put the radio. Since it is a bucket seat setup, with the floor shifter and center console, it makes a big competition for space between equipment and passengers!

Let us know how you make out...and pictures are always nice!
