Problem with BDN6676/6780

Post by Malpaso »

I just got to try out the 6676 adapter and 6780 earbud on an XTS5000R and immediately had a problem. As soon as the plug was inserted into the adapter, it activated the transmit. Am I missing something, or is one or both of them defective?

Edit: I also tried them on a JT1000 with the same results.

Does the same thing occur if you plug it in while the radio is turned off, then turn it on?

Yes it does. I've also tried clicking the button on the adapter while the radio is on and off.

We found that some accessories do not work on portables using the BDN6676. There is (usally) a missing serries capacitor in the earpiece cable. So the earphone keys the portable radio.

Is this a design problem or a QC problem?

I have ordered and utilized several of those combinations without any trouble what so ever.

Thanks. I'm going to go on the assumption that one or both of the parts are bad, and contact Motorola for a warranty.

Edit: Motorola is warrantying both parts, and sending a UPS pickup form, so there's no cost to me.
