Astro Spectra Receiver Degradation Questions

Post by 26M10 »

I have a Range R (438-482) that I want to have some frequencies in the upto 487 (most of the out of range ones only go to 485 on the txt side).

So the majority of the Out of band frequencies are in the 483 region on the RX side.

The radio programs them with no problem except the out of band warning message that performance will be degradated.

My question is does the degradation occur at the top end (does it roll off?)? or is it linear accross the entire band?

My questions arises from an observance of what was once a very hot radio at 460 now seems to be deaf accross the whole range.

First off, there is no 438-482 Astro Spectra bandsplit. The actual R-split ranges are:

438-470 (15w motorcycle version)
450-482
453-488

From the sound of it, you have a 450-482 radio. These use the exact same VCO board and prefilter as a regular analog Spectra, so the same out-of-band warnings apply. My experience has been that the top end of the useable range in a 450-482 prefilter is around 490, but it varies from radio to radio. Nothing in them gets changed by programming or requires realignment after replacement, so if you have an analog radio that works a little better in your target range you can rob the prefilter out of it and drop it in your Astro radio.

You are correct that was a typo on my part.

450-482.

Would a shop tune-up help?

there is no receive alignment to an astro spectra mobile.

the boards are laser cut at the factory.

you either have a desense problem or a piece of hardware departing life

The SP01 front end will do 453 to 485 (3 meg shift from normal range).

Should be able to receive 488 with slight degradation of sensitivity.
