HT1000 "wind noise" on TX

Post by radiocomms95 »

Hello,
I have a UHF HT1000 (H01RDC9AA3CN) that makes a noise on transmit, which sounds like wind noise. I have changed the mic element, but this did not change the frequency or severity of the noise. Could it be something in the flex cable (in which case I'll get a whole new front casing), a fluke of having a second bad mic element, or is it something deeper within the radio?

Search the forum under microphonics. What you're experiencing sounds like a known issue mainly due to chassis grounding issues. Or the mic. gain could be set to +9dB (or however high it goes on HT1000's).

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

IIRC there was an SRN on this and a parts kit "Jedi noise kit?" that consisted of an upgraded front cover flex, some metal conductive tape, etc and a new front shield.

This is a common problem with Jedi's. I bet if you press on the radio front cover and battery (squeeze it in your hand) while transmitting you'll make the noise increase/decrease.

I agree with MTS2000des, it sounds like one version of the microphonics issue. What I do is lightly tack the shield to the board with a solder dot, one on each board (controller + RF). I also clean everything in sight, bend up the tabs, etc.
