XTL5000 out of band?

Post by Richard »

I have an XTL5000, UHF band one (380--470). How far up will the radio operate out of band? Will it go to 489? What would be involved in making the radio a "band 2" unit?

Thanks Much!

To make it a range 2 it would require a new RF board, new power amp, and flashed with range 2 codeplug and tuning file.

The first two you can do but the second two are next to impossible. Buy a range 2 radio.

The radio may operate around +/- 10 meg, or up to around 480. I highly doubt it would work well, if at all, at 489 MHz.

The out of band hack info is on this site (hacking Astro CPS).

I agree with the other gentleman, 19MHz out is a little far. I've got a 450-520 That I've stretched down to about 443 on Tx on 448 on RX without a problem. While the VCO may lock there, it's probably going to be deaf as a post.

It'll definitely go to 477, but I can't comment on how well it performs there.

It should go to 477 without any modifications to the hardware or software. If you search for how to program the XTS5000 out of band you will find instructions on how to modify the software and they should also apply to the XTL5000.

Change the band limits and see how far you can go before gettin a FAIL 001. If you are only recieving than you should be fine. Once you go beyond 477 there are no garuntees on the radios performance.

It works. That's how I got mine to go into the ham band.
