Astro spectra 15 pin connector pinouts
I've talked and brought up recently the riccticcitembo controller to link spectra radios together in order to make a repeater.
I've built modules successfully, which work fine with analog only spectras, and with analog spectras as transmitters, but digital spectras won't work on that end.
I ventured to figure out why....
My radios don't have PTT on pin 13! Now, the comprehensive manual shows the pins line up on the astro the same way they do on the analog, so plug-n-play was all I expected, but clearly that's not the case.
What do I have to do to get PTT on the 15 pin connector? Nothing appears configurable in the RSS. I don't like the idea of having something run to the mic connector as well, that looks crappy.

The service manual does show that PTT, among other things, can be configured on the 15-pin accessory jack pin 13. To get that, you need to remove JU518 and install JU500 on the command board. If this is anything like a regular Spectra, they're soldered-on zero-ohm jumpers, and are probably underneath the command board, so you have to remove it to get to them.
There are similar jumpers to enable MIC HI, DISC AUDIO, and VRS TX. These all share RS-232 functions on the accessory jack pins.
It might be easier to use the front panel MIC jack, however ugly it may be.

I'm not at all against surface mount soldering... it appears that I'm going to have to get my manual, which is at home... 40 miles away to get the schematics.
These pin functions should be able to be setup in the RSS.... but even if that were the case, I'd have to go home to get the computer.
I'm going to need PTT and mic-hi, disc. audio may prove to be useful as well (pac-rt comes to mind), even though the PTT and mic-hi are standard configured on the analog spectras :-/

Hey Josh,
Sorry it took me a while to reply. I just had to spend another 10 seconds registering a new account and find another proxy first.
Here's another link for you:

That's the RARE ASTRO Spectra control head service manual. Hopefully Alex doesn't delete the post. The link contains information that all forum members can use. If it's deleted, it's apparently obvious that Alex doesn't want to further the education of the board members.
Cheers

I see the link and can get to the site. But it beats the hell out of me how you get the file.

Well.... I know it doesn't work with firefox, unless it's a problem due to the adblock, but in IE I can see something near the top that says "download file" right above the barrage of ads, underneath the ads is the file description. While it's not highlighted or underlined, bolded, etc, you can click on the "download file" link and go from there.

FYI, If it weren't for a family-related thing today, I would not be this posting information anywhere near coherently on a college-sunday morning, you probably shouldn't expect it ever again
