Changing a GTX portable code-plug.

Post by jets1961 »

Is it possible to change a Motorola GTX code plug from an 800 MHz LTR (H11UDC6CU1AN) to an 800 MHz Moto type II (H11UCD6CB1AN), or is the hardware different in some way?

Also if it is do-able, is the standard RSS used to do it and does it require a special interface other non-RIB type? Any additional info appreciated.

The firmware is different, so even if one were to blank it with GTX LAB and re-initialize it as a Type II radio, it would not work...it would just give a "error 06" on the screen.

Do you mean hardware or firmware? If you do in fact mean firmware can it not be changed also? Like does moto make the GTX as same hardware and just flash it's firmware in the factory or is the hardware different? I see your a mod so I think you are saying firmware is not upgradable?

Thanks, Joe

The firmware in the GTX is not field upgradeable such as you find with the Astro & Waris series (FLASHport & firmware upgrade packages). It is contained in a FLASH I.C, so in theory if one had the proper equipment & files, it could be done. Or you could swap the FLASH I.C. from a Type II radio...although it's far easier to simply swap the controller board, in the portable at least.
