equipment
Thanks for the reply, the RSS is Motorola Radius series RSS version 3.1 Release build 2 copyright (c) 1996-1999, under description it says version 3.0 for the 1225. The cable is an all-in-one ribless from Kawamall.com 1xmcbg3 is a number of one like it.
The MT1000 is a DOS file the only number i see is R03.01.00 22nov91
The cable is a ribless from RFGUYS.COM with Motorola 3909 on it.
The computers are an old IBM Thinkpad w/ windows 98 and an old Toshiba 1755 w. windows 98.
I have changed the com port on both and still nothing, i think the speed is too fast but not sure how to change it.
I bought an after market rib that was to be compatible from Wholesale electronics RLN-4008. I brought the RSS out of the hard drive to a floppy, out it in the IBM the programming screen comes up, but when connected i get serial bus communications error, when i run a com test i get, com test failed. I have Kenwood RSS and cables and have the same problems. Any help greatly appreciated.

RSS problems...
If you're not running pure DOS in the 6.22 version that's
where your problem lies. The RSS won't run under Windows,
and it won't run under the imitation DOS that Windows sets
up for you. You must run DOS from a boot and that should
solve the problem.
All of the Motorola documentation I've ever seen for their
RSS that require DOS make it painfully clear that you MUST
run the RSS under DOS.

MT1000'S and P200's are very picky, you need an older 386 or486 to do those. and as far as the 1225, don't run that on a computer running windows xp. it should work on the laptops you have listed tho. i've never seen a ribless cable for the mt1000, i think you may of been mislead, i've read on their descriptions before and they call it a ribless cable but they just mean that the cable don't have a rib. so their definition of ribless isn't the same as mine.

re:
Great thanks maybe i am getting closer, my laptop has ms-dos ( i think), where do i get a pure dos disk, and do i have to clear out the comp. and reinstall, the "ribless" makes sense, my RIB has a 25 port on it and my cable has a 9 port, can i adapt it down to work or does it have to be a 9 to 9 or 25 to 25. also i got a schematic from this site for a cable for maxtrac/radias/gm300/etc. i made the cable but i am not sure about the loop for pins 11 and 4 it says bus- 1.7v bias. please tell me what that means, i think i have done it wrong, i have just looped the 11 and 4 pin together, and then run the 1 and 15 pins like they are shown.
Thanks for your help as you can tell i am very new to this programming thing!!!!

to get it into dos i just create a windows startup disk from 98 or millenium and that works fine. i'd try to start your computer with a startup disk and use your ribless cable and see if that works.
