Orange Emergency Button

Post by kdean7 »

Anyone familiar with how to program the top button on HT750/HT1250/HT1550/MT2000's to do emergency call?

If it helps I am looking specifically for how to make it work and then how to make it work in conjunction with Mercer County Central in NJ.

And if you could please refrain from comments such as "just ask them" as most people working the radio's have no idea and the people involved that do know don't want to share the information so that they can have a lock on the programming of the radio's and such.

I read through the CPS but it wasn't clear how to make these act as an emergency button.
Thanks in advance to all.

we're in the process of turning those on for the rest of our portables now. Some of our officers already have that turned on for the HT1250's and HT1550. Those units are transmitting with their MDC and display anyone else who is transmitting in MDC. How does that relate though to the emergency button?

The emergency button without MDC will only emit a personal alarm. if its programmed with mdc it will transmit an SOS code (so to say) with the MDC ID of the radio/user in distress.

So how do you program it to do that (with MDC)?

The dispatch center must be setup to decode the emergency ID as well. If they are not it doesn't do any good as portables don't decode an emergency MDC alert.

Be aware the HT750's can only do Emergency MDC if it's a 16-channel unit, with firmware of 5.00.03 or greater.

Beware: there is a danger of futzing up the system if you program portables to send an emergency that is not coordinated with the system itself. When a radio sents an emergency, it looks for an acknowledgement, and if it doesn't get the acknowledgement, it just keeps sending the emergency block until its loop counter runs out. If you go off on your own, therefore, all you're going to do is tie up the channel with blocks of MDC words that no one can decode and most will be unable to talk over.
