xts5000 error

Post by fire_master_21 »

I have a xts5000r with this error when trying to read or write

NEXTGEN10
OPEN RADIO FAILED
ERROR CONTEXT: 24 STATUS c000039e

What does this mean? I do have a savd CP for it. I read the radio and edited the same CP and tried to write then got this error. I am running the lastest legit CPS for this.

Open Radio Failed tends to indicate a communications error. Have you tried using your computer/CPS/cable with another radio to isolate the problem?

yeah this is on a model I, I use this same set up with my model III all the time. I rebooted my computer and I am able to read and write to the radio now, but I would still like to figure out why it did this.

There's your answer. First rule of thumb with any Windows software...reboot & see if it fixes your problem(s).

What happened is that some other application had taken capture of your serial port and then not released it. Not to worry.

SO if one was to buy a cable for programming, it would be best to go with the USB Option??? I have the new Version 8 of the Astro Portable CPS and haven't decided on a cable yet, borrowed a friends serial style wire and had issues also, would lose communication and cause a fail in my XTS2500 with a code of 01/82, reboot and it would write the CPS. However I keep having these problems, didn't happen just once or twice....

The poster's particular problem wasn't so much because of the serial cable, as much as it was some sort of Windows glitch. I've programmed hundreds of XTS1500/2500/5000 radios, with both the serial & USB cables, and never had a problem with either one for regular programming. If you are having issues, you either have an unstable computer issue, or possibly a bad serial cable.

I wiil say that when flashing a radio, I have had zero issues with the serial cable, but 6 failures with the USB cable (approx 400 flashes total between the two). It's much faster than the serial for flashing, but it seems to be riskier in my experience. Luckily, Motorola has always fixed any radio which fails during flashing at no charge...for me at least.
