You should be able to. We started out with the 650s and when the 850s came out we switched to them, there was a little bit of difference in the programming, couldn't clone them from the 650s, otherwise they're pretty much the same.

What kind of software are you using? Are you on a private system, or is it someone else's, and do you have access to winrss?

Its on our fire dept. system. the 850's came with new mdt's. The 650's when used(with new mdt) show in range and with the external gps install they get tracked, but they can not send or receive data correctly. Yes i have the winrss and both templates are set up the same. Even have PW's for the greyed out fields and hidden calibration menus. I was suppose to have the System guy for the fire dept come over with a break-out box and set-up the mdt for testing tonight but have not seen him as of yet. thank you for taking your time to help a young noob(wte behind the ears) guy. lol

It sounds like you definately have rf connectivity, when you say they are in range, is that what the software tells you, or you know that by the service light going solid? Is this just one unit? The two are swappable, but if its a software communication problem that may not fix it.

If they're getting tracked with the GPS then they're sending data, all they do there is accept the GPS coordinates as RS232 data and insert it into the outgoing data stream.

Do you have older MDTs still in the system that the 650s work with?

The only other thing that comes to mind is that maybe the 650 isn't activated in the system, if it's one that's been taken out of service and you're now trying to use it as a spare they might have taken it's ID out of the system.

If the gps data is going through, it would have to be active in the rnc. It has to be a communication error between the pc and the vrm or the rnc and its host.

Found something that worked.

For what ever reason changing the xon/xoff flow control to hardware for the modem settings and xp settings for the com port 1 fixed the problem of connection problems. I can now swap 650 for a 850 modem on either mdt set-up and they work. Ty all for the help.
