Existing Astro Spectra remote cable etc. w/ XTL5000?

Post by akardam »

I was wondering, as I have several existing Astro Spectra's setup in my truck with the remote mount kit, what possibility would exist in using part or all of the remote kit with an XTL5000 at some point, if I chose to go that route.

Is the Astro Spectra style head electrically compatable with the XTL's? Also could the existing remote mount cable be used in any fashion?

The remote cables are the same as the Spectra/Astro Spectra, the mounting cup for the remote head is the same except for the color & the Astro head will interchange as well (once again, color being the only difference).

The remote board on the radio is different as it uses a flex to connect to the transceiver rather than a set of pins.

I can't really see an advantage to going to the XTL over the Astro Spectra if you are planning on keeping the same head etc.. The good news is that the Astro Spectras are going down in price and coming up in availability.

If you need any XTL interconnect boards (remote mount), I have a few kicking around.

This would be the board + dual port DB25 on the front of the drawer, eh? I take it that the Astro Spectra remote interface board would not work?

It is different, it uses a flex rather than a set of pins to plug into the RF deck.

Right, but it serves the same purpose, e.g. it replaces the control head on the front of the drawer and gives the remote cable somewhere to plug in?
